If you need to sell a home you’ve already moved out of, should you rent furniture to stage it?

Here’s what you need to know.

Should You Rent Furniture to Stage an Empty House?

While you should talk to your real estate agent before you go to the expense of renting furniture to stage the house you want to sell, know that in many cases, it’s a good idea. The National Association of REALTORS(R) did a study that says:

  • 28% of sellers said staged homes stayed on the market for less amount of time.
  • 83% of buyers’ agents said staging a house made it easier for a buyer to visualize the property as a future home.
  • 10% of buyers surveyed felt that homes should look the way they were staged on TV shows.
  • 38% of buyers said that TV shows which displayed the buying process impacted their business.

What all those numbers really mean is that when you stage a home before you sell it, you increase its perceived value – and that can make it sell faster than it would sell if it were empty.
