Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

It’s time to bring out the pumpkins, start baking those apple pies, and take in all the smells of autumn.  Before you get ready for all the festivities here are some tips on getting your home ready for the fall.

  • Landscape for Fall.

Trim back bushes and shrubs. Move potted plants closer to the house so you are ready in case a cold front hits. (We all know how those cold fronts blow in to our  West Texas town)

  • Clean your Chimney and Fireplace.

Get In contact with your local chimney cleaning company, have them come clean your fireplace. A great reference for Midland Texas and Odessa Texas home owners:  The Fire Place located at 4610 N Garfield St D2, Midland, TX 79705 and can  be reached at 432-620-0200

  • Clean those Gutters.

Clean out leaves, nest, brush, and or  debris.

  • Inspect your Roof.

Do a Visual inspection of the roof from the ground? If possible, grab your ladder and inspect for any damages. Check to see if you have any missing shingles or any potential leaks.

  • Check Doors and Window Seals.

Re-Caulk if needed and put door mats down to help keep out dirt from windy fall days.

  • Inspect Trees.

Check for any hanging limbs that might be a threat to your roof or power lines.

  • Clean Out Your Storage Building/Garage.

Get your summer gear packed up and organized so you have easy access to your fall/Christmas décor

  • Get Your Firewood Cut and Stocked.

Store firewood in a dry place, off the ground, and away from your house. Keep wood covered so critters can’t get cozy.

  • Winterize Your Lawn Mowers and Lawn Equipment.

Be prepared to let your lawn equipment set for a few months and take all precautions so they are in working shape for spring.

  • Rake Up Leaf’, Old Grass Clippings or Limbs.

Rake up leaf’s that might have fallen, or any grass clipping so your yard will be fall ready. Yard waste can be disposed of at the Citizens Collection Station.  This site is located just north of the Clay Desta post office at 4100 Smith Road.  Attached is a link where you can find all of the rules and guide lines for the City of Midland, Texas.
